Bar Ends
Used bar ends and handlebar end plugs for road bikes, from sellers across the UK. Listings range from basic plastic plugs to alloy and carbon options from Cinelli, Supacaz, Wolf Tooth and PRO. Check the internal diameter of your bars before buying anything specialised.
Do I really need bar end plugs?
Bar end plugs are a legal requirement for racing and a safety feature for everyone — an uncapped handlebar end can cause serious injury in a crash. They also finish off your bar tape wrap, holding the tail of the tape inside the bar.
Push-in or expanding plugs?
Push-in plastic plugs come with most bar tape and do the job. Expanding alloy plugs from Cinelli and Wolf Tooth grip from inside the bar and won't pop out mid-ride. Some lock in with a bolt that expands a rubber collar for a secure fit.
Which material and how heavy are they?
Plastic plugs run 2-5g per pair and are purely functional. Alloy is 10-20g per pair, secure and available in anodised colours. Carbon sits at 5-10g, lightweight with a premium look. Titanium bolt versions save a gram or two over steel, in the same way the rest of your road components can be shaved down.
Will they fit my handlebars?
Most road bars have a standard internal diameter of roughly 22-24mm at the ends, so universal plugs fit. Some aero bars have non-standard openings — check before buying specialised plugs, especially if you are rewrapping at the same time as changing shifters.
