Common Fork Service Parts
Most fork issues come down to a handful of wear items. Knowing which parts to replace and when saves you money on full rebuilds and keeps your fork performing between professional services.
Dust Seals and Foam Rings
The first line of defence against dirt and water getting into the fork internals. Replace these every 50–100 hours of riding or whenever you notice oil weeping past the seals. SKF and Enduro make aftermarket seals that often outlast the OEM ones from Fox and RockShox.
Bushings
Guide bushings sit between the stanchions and lowers and control how smoothly the fork moves. When they wear, you get play and a vague feeling through the bars. DU bushings are self-lubricating and available from most fork service suppliers. Replacing them requires a bushing press tool.
Damper Cartridges
If your damper is blown — the fork either dives with no resistance or feels locked solid — a cartridge replacement is often more practical than a rebuild, especially on older forks. Aftermarket cartridges from brands like Avalanche, Fast Suspension and Sprindex can upgrade budget forks significantly.
Air Springs and Volume Spacers
Air springs rarely fail, but the negative air spring seals can lose pressure over time, causing the fork to sit low in its travel. Volume spacers (tokens) let you tune the spring curve — more spacers create a more progressive feel that resists bottoming out.
