How is an e-gravel bike different from an e-road bike?
Drop bars and a long wheelbase are common to both, but gravel frames clear far wider tyres, run lower gearing and carry mounts for bags and bottles. The result stays composed on loose surfaces, byways and farm tracks rather than being built purely for tarmac speed.
Full-power or lightweight assist?
Full-power mid-drives give the most help on steep, loaded climbs but add weight and bulk at the bottom bracket. What range will it actually do?
Quoted figures assume flat roads and low assist. Mud, gravel, headwinds, luggage, rider weight and cold weather all cut it, sometimes by half, and off-road riding tends to sit in higher assist modes than commuting does. Judge a bike on battery capacity and condition rather than the manufacturer's number.
Should I look at an e-MTB instead?
